Ministry formation is our formation program that originated to answer the need for formation for our student leaders. This year, we are opening up the ministry formation classes to all of our parishioners, student and non-student, regardless of their level of involvement.
Ministry formation classes are 6 weeks long and take place on Wednesday nights from 8:30 -9:45 p.m. We begin each week in the church with Night Prayer and break off into classes after that.
The curriculum is a four-semester curriculum with a new class taken each semester. The four classes are: prayer, salvation history, evangelization, and Acts of the Apostles. Prayer focuses on the section of the Catechism on prayer. We go over the liturgy, how to pray, what prayer is, and more. Salvation History is based off of the Bible Timeline Series and follows the story of salvation in the Old Testament that is fulfilled in Christ. Evangelization focuses on the gospels, specifically looking at the life of Christ as our model for evangelization. Acts of the Apostles focuses on the early Church and the life of the Apostles after the resurrection.
All students who are beginning ministry formation are expected to go through these classes in this order, but non-students may enter the curriculum where they see fit. For questions on these classes or to talk about where to start, email Joseph West at joseph@catholicgators.org.
After the initial 6 weeks of classes each semester, the student center staff offers ministry formation electives in their areas of expertise. Some of these electives have included theology of the Body and Love and Responsibility classes; Latin and other language classes; theology and apologetics classes; history - especially early Church history and the history of heresy - classes; and more. The sign-ups for these electives will be available at the end of the regular 6-week ministry formation classes.
If you are interested in minsitry formation this semester, please sign up by Tuesday, September 7 and expect to begin classes on Wednesday September 8.
